Unplug and unwind

Completely off-grid — no mains electricity, no running water in the hut, no mobile signal, no distractions. Just solar lighting, candlelight, gas, a camping stove, a wood-burning stove, and the sound of birdsong. Set within the Calgary Art in Nature sculpture walk, surrounded by art installations and mature woodland, Kittiwake is a place to slow down, breathe deep, and remember what quiet sounds like.

Off-grid

Solar lights, candles, gas and a camping stove — no mains electricity or plug sockets

A boat built into the roof and ceiling.
That's the kind of place this is.

A labour of love

Kittiwake was hand-built using locally sourced wood, with a boat repurposed as part of the roof — a distinctive touch that connects you to the maritime heritage of the Hebrides. Set within the Calgary Art in Nature sculpture walk, surrounded by art installations and mature woodland, it's unlike anywhere else you'll stay.

What guests and reviewers say

Real sourced reviews

“We woke up not to the monotonous alarm tone, but to the sound of birds singing.”

— Country Hopping Couple · Travel blog review

“We woke up not to the monotonous alarm tone, but to the sound of birds singing. After travelling around Scotland for myriad weekends, hopping over various coasts, we can confidently say that this [Calgary Bay], by far, is the best beach we have seen.”

Country Hopping Couple — Travel blog review

“I had a great couple of nights staying here! The hut is in a beautiful location with a great view of Calgary Bay. It is very peaceful and comfortable. There is very little phone signal in the area (as expected) which allows you to disconnect and have a break! I'd recommend it to those wanting to be immersed in nature in a beautiful corner of the Isle of Mull.”

“We had an absolutely lovely stay in the Kittiwake. It was so peaceful and allowed us to really relax and enjoy ourselves. The Kittiwake itself is amazing, it is well built and insulated, having the log fire on was lovely. The location is also fantastic — Calgary Bay beach is beautiful. Recommend to anyone who likes a unique, exciting and beautifully situated stay!”
